We usually find solace in air fresheners, which are easy to use and readily available, to get rid of bad odours. However, most supermarket-bought air fresheners are made with chemicals that are harmful to both your own health and the environment. Helpling has listed five ways to avoid this situation. Baking Soda: The Odour Absorber

Place half a cup of baking soda on the shelf above your bathroom sink and let it absorb and the smell in your toilet. Replace the baking soda once a month to ensure freshness. For particularly bad odours, create a natural repellent by dissolving a teaspoon of baking soda into 2 cups of water, a tablespoon of white vinegar and 10 drops of essential oil. Place the mixture in a spray bottle and shake well before use.

Lemon: The Natural Deodoriser

Another way of keeping your bathroom smelling fresh is to leave lemon slices close to bad smelling areas such as the the drain or toilet bowl. Lemons are great at absorbing smells and neutralizing odours, leaving your bathroom smelling nice and fresh. Replace the lemon slices weekly to maintain freshness.

Essential Oils: The Chemical Free Air Freshener

Essential oils are often used in the living room to smell good, so why not use them to freshen your bathroom too? Scents such as lavender and lemongrass work miracles in your bathroom. Simply pour a few drops of your favourite smelling oil into a diffuser or place aroma soaked cotton balls inside a small candle holder and let the chemical free air freshener cover even the strongest of odours from your bathroom.

Alcohol: Not Just For Drinking!

Vodka has many uses beyond cocktails! Did you know this versatile alcohol is also a useful ingredient to get rid of unwanted bathroom smells? Get the cheapest bottle of vodka you can find and mix one part with three parts water and a couple drops of essential oil into a spray bottle. This spray mixture functions as a natural air freshener to soak up bathroom smells.

Toilet Fizz Bombs: The Ultimate Toilet Bowl Declogger

Does your clogged up toilet situation cause you unnecessary stress? Not to worry, this stinky situation can be easily fixed with homemade toilet bombs. Add half a cup of baking soda with half a cup of cornstarch and lemon juice into a ziploc bag. Shake the mixture well, then add 2 to 3 tablespoons of water into the mixture and knead it. Repeat this step until you feel like you are kneading a piece of dough. Then add 10 to 15 drops of lemon and lavender scented essential oil in the dough mixture and knead again. Store them in ice trays of desired shape and allow them to completely dry. Once dry, remove the fizzy bombs from the ice trays and store them in a mason jar. To use, throw one of the fizzy bombs into your toilet bowl and let it fizz for a couple of minutes before flushing.
